Born in Tanzania and born to sing, Nizar Damji is a well-accomplished and internationally renowned singer and musician. He is famously known as 'Nizar & Party'. He has enjoyed extensive tours, including performances in East and Central Africa, England, Europe, Spain, USA, India, Pakistan and Canada. His concerts have also contributed to numerous local, national and international charitable organizations. Nizar had the privilege to perform thrice in presence of His Highness the Aga Khan, once for Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan (UN High Comissioner for Refugees) as well as many famous actors, singers, music directors and dignitaries. Nizar has shared the stage with Hemant Kumar, Dilip Kumar, Narendra Chanchal, K. Deep & Jagmohan Kaur, Uma Devi, Ghulam Ali and one on one meetings with Late Mohammed Rafi, Mukesh, Lata Mangeshkar, Music director Naushad, Kalyanji Anandji, Shashi Kapoor, Aga, and Pandit Jasraj to name a few.
Nizar, with his family came to Vancouver as a landed immigrant in August of 1975. Within six months he became the pioneer of TV shows for the South Asian population of Vancouver. In Jan 1976, 'AAP KI MEHFIL' (your congregation) took flight over the airwaves. His aim was to build bridges not only within the multi- religious and cultural south Asian community but also with the community at large. In 1978, another TV show 'GEMS OF THE EAST' was launched. TV interviews with famous actors, singers and musicians and personalities from India and Pakistan included Amitabh Bachchan, Kalyanji Anandji, Dilip Kumar, Asha Bhosle, Suresh Wadekar, Mehar Mittal, Jagjit Singh, Ghulam Ali, Mitali & Bhupinder Singh, Late Noor Jahan and Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia to name a few. GEMS OF THE EAST was as successful as AAP KI MEHFIL and is well remembered even today. In 1984 Multicultural Pay TV was introduced. Notices were served to close down the free Multicultural channel. Nizar's efforts saved the free channel which is currently still enjoyed by all producers and community viewers.
On Ismailis and people of Gilgit, Hunza, Chitral, Kailash Valley, Afghan refugee camps, Sikh religious Palaces in Pakistan and Various other religious cultural traditions and events.
Nizar has volunteered and contributed countless hours of time and talent for various communities and charitable organizations for many years and continues to do that. He has been a volunteer for many years for the "WORLD PARTNERSHIP WALK" and had served as a deputy media convener and was also part of the Media and Marketing team for "BRIDGES THAT UNITE" and "ISMAILI WALK FOR WOMEN 2008". In 1982 during His Highness The Aga Khan's Silver Jubilee, Nizar was one of the recipients of the Silver Jubilee Medal for his 25 years of continued outstanding voluntary service in the community. July 2005, he was recognized by Tanzania's Ismaili community for his 50 years of talent and voluntary contribution to the community.
Nizar shares this musical contribution with his family, friends, well-wishers and fans with the hope that it will be received with love and appreciation. This is yet another musical and lyrical expression of dedication, devotion and love for Imam-e-Zaman.
